Get the Picture Thinking About Photographs is an internet-based resource for middle and high school teachers and students of photography containing more than 50 photographs from the permanent collection of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Get the Picture can be used to teach about both the process of making pictures and the resulting works of art. Students gain insight into their own photographs and opinions about photography as they learn about the documentary work of Berenice Abbott, Jerome Liebling and Carl Robert Pope Jr.; the photojournalist Gilles Peress; Pictorial photographer Alfred Stieglitz; Surrealist Czech photographer Eva Fuka, and Minnesota photographer Stephanie Torbert. Students can also build their own photo exhibits, send postcards representing pictures from the site and learn about the technical aspects of this art form through demonstrations and diagrams. |
