Tea Caddy

Because of a high tax levied by England, tea was very expensive in the colonies. By the middle of the 18th century, a pound of tea cost a skilled worker the equivalent of a third of his weekly wage. Colonists usually stored their valuable tea in locked containers like this tea caddy.
