Curriculum Materials: Art in America
Paul Revere Many students of U.S. history know Paul Revere as a
patriot of the American Revolution who made the famous
midnight ride immortalized by Longfellow's poem. Few know,
however, that he was also a silversmith. Silversmiths were
among the most respected and best-paid artists in
18th-century America. Revere began his career as an
apprentice in his father's silversmithing workshop in
Boston. He later took over the business.
