Nina Simone Eunice Waymon, who later changed her name to Nina Simone,
was born in 1933 in North Carolina. She gained national
prominence as a jazz pianist and singer during the late
1950s. Her unique form of jazz often incorporated elements
of folk, gospel, African, and contemporary music. After
having worked in Europe for several decades, Simone has
recently made a comeback in the United States.
