Color, Color, Who's Got the Color? Kaffe
Fassett

This exciting exhibition features 160 works by the
contemporary American textile artist Kaffe Fassett. His
pieces range from knitted sweaters and needlepoint carpets
to wall hangings and site installations. Fassett's lush
colors and intricate patterns reveal how he draws
inspiration from both decorative objects and natural forms.

Jacob Lawrence: The Frederick Douglass and
Harriet Tubman Series of Narrative Paintings
Tours offered February 24-May 3, 1998
Through vivid colors and strong graphic forms, Jacob
Lawrence's paintings tell the story of Frederick Douglass
and Harriet Tubman, two important leaders of the American
abolitionist movement. Lawrence's bold images also reveal
his interest in black history and the continuing cultural
influence of the 1930s and '40s Harlem Renaissance. An
explanatory text accompanies each image.

Artisans in Silver: Judaica Today
Tours offered May 19-August 9, 1998
This exhibition is the first of its kind to present
contemporary handmade Jewish ritual silver. It will feature
54 objects made in various styles and with different
silversmithing techniques.
Monet at Vétheuil: Turning Point
Tours offered June 2-July 19, 1998
Claude Monet spent the harsh winter of 1880 at
Vétheuil, a time that proved decisive for his
artistic and personal development. This exhibition examines
Monet's stark Vétheuil landscapes and the beginning
of his painting in series. Still lifes and other outdoor
scenes will be included to provide a context for the
Vétheuil pictures.
