High School Standard: Earth and Space Systems Compare and contrast elements of the creation myths of different cultures; consider what the myths reveal about a people's scientific knowledge. (See online Mythological Comparisons chart.) Determine which of the unit's artworks illustrate myths that explain the occurrence of a natural phenomenon, and then evaluate these myths in terms of modern scientific knowledge. Research the names of constellations to determine which are named after mythological figures, draw and label those constellations, and write brief biographies of their namesakes. Research the names of planets to determine which are named after mythological figures, write a brief summary of the important facts known about each planet, and write a brief biography of its namesake. High School Standard: Environmental Systems Consider how certain of the unit's artworks reflect the natural environment of the culture in which they were created; examine both the materials used as well as the images portrayed. |
