For Richard Bresnahan, Sister Johanna was that person. She helped him arrange an apprenticeship with a potter in Japan named Nakazato Takashi, whose family has been creating pottery for 13 generations on Tanegashima Island.

Thirteen generations is a very long time. Imagine how skilled your family would become at something if they did it for 13 generations.
