World Ceramics: How was it used?

Richard Bresnahan

Teapot

Stoneware with natural glazes
6-3/4 inches high, 8 inches long

Bresnahan created the teapot to be used daily to brew a delicious, soothing cup of green tea. He sees this object as functional pottery that enhances the experience of making, serving, and drinking tea. He does not consider it to be simply an "art object." His search for a useful vessel led to the discovery of forms that allow the tea to steep without bitterness, thereby adding to the quality of the guest-host relationship. The careful, intensive, naturally inspired process Bresnahan uses in his work has created a teapot that will last for generations of use.
