Cadzi Cody

Cadzi Cody (KAT see KO dee) was a Shoshone Indian who lived on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. His Shoshone name, Codsiogo (Co SEE ko), means "mountain flower." At least a dozen painted hides have been attributed to Cadzi Cody on the basis of shared stylistic characteristics. Because he painted so many hides that look very similar, some people believe that he painted them to trade rather than to keep for himself. His hides do not represent his biography, but rather show various aspects of traditional Plains life.
