Poetic Horizons: The Landscape Tradition in Britain, 1750-1850

Watercolors and prints by such artists as Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, and J. M. W. Turner are featured in this exhibition, which explores the golden age of British landscape art. Illustrated books and decorative objects with landscape motifs also are included.

The Scholar's Study: Chinese Art in the Literati Tradition *

More than 50 works from the 16th to 18th centuries illustrate the art and lifestyle of China's amateur scholar-painters, who were called literati. The exhibit also includes objects the literati used to create their paintings and calligraphy, as well as works they collected.

An Asian bride, a Spanish bullfighter, and Santa Claus all wear red clothing. Drawn from the museum's permanent collection, this exhibition explores the different cultural uses and meanings of the color red.

After the Photo-Secession: American Pictorial Photography, 1910-1955

This exhibition examines the social and artistic development of pictorial photography between the two World Wars. The first major investigation of this subject, the show includes approximately 150 images by such photographers as Max Thorek, D. J. Ruzicka, and Eleanor Parke Curtis.

Dale Chihuly: Installations, 1964-1997

Experience the glass sculptures of Seattle artist Dale Chihuly. The large scale and highly expressive forms of Chihuly's work defy traditional boundaries of glass art. The show features more than 120 works and at least one glass installation that will only be presented in Minneapolis.
