Free and open to the publicThis event features the premier of "Not a Nickel's Worth of Doubt," a one-hour documentary film by Terri Myers about the life and art of Reggie Anderson (a.k.a. Reginald Sanders). There are two screenings of the film in Pillsbury Auditorium at 7:30 and 9 p.m., with a question and answer session fllowing the first screening. The reception also features a live performance of original jazz compositions by pianist John Sims, Jr. in the sculpture court.
The film "Not a Nickel's Worth of Doubt" was made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Public Broadcasting Services, the National Black Programming Consortium, the Minnesota Humanities Commission in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Minnesota State Legislature, and many private donors.

Dr. Elizabeth Barber is an internationally renowned professor of linguistics and archaeology at Occidental College in Los Angeles, as well as a handweaver. She discusses the origin and development of spinning and weaving in Europe and the Near East, covering the first 20,000 years of these skills.

Master Class: Off the Wall: Reconstructing Textile History from Visual Sources
In this first-ever master class, acclaimed scholar Elizabeth Barber uses ancient wall paintings, museum objects, and reconstructed samples to demonstrate some of the creative methods scholars use to understand early textile history. Participants become familiar with ancient practices by handling tools, examining textile structures, and considering a variety of technical possibilities.

1997 Dealers' Print and Drawing Fair
Sponsored by the Print and Drawing Council
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is pleased to announce the return of the Dealers' Print and Drawing Fair beginning Thursday evening, April 24 and continuing through Sunday afternoon, April 27. Nine national art dealers offer an extensive and exciting selection of original prints, drawings, watercolors, pastels, and artists'. Prices start at about $150.
Kicking off the weekend is the benefit preview reception on Thursday, April 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dealers and departmental curators are on hand to assist patrons in making their selection. In addition to the opportunity to be the first to purchase original works of art, admission to the preview includes hors d'oeuvres, live music, and a cash bar. Proceeds from the preview reception and the daily admission fee, as well as a percentage of the sale price of artwork, are used to fund educational programs and permanent collection acquisitions for the department.
